Our workshop ca.1986!

The workshop is housed in a rebuilt coach house/stable which was completely decrepit when we moved here in April 1985. The original doors had been replaced with a metal up and over door and the infill brickwork above was very loose, the walls were falling outward and the flat roof on the right hand section had completely rotted through. It wasn't a difficult decision to rebuild it but the amount of work which that would involve wasn't appreciated at the time!

We used reclaimed bricks, slates, window frames etc from a number of local demolition sites in order to ensure the building was in keeping with our house. Indeed the facing bricks were identical to our house bricks since we managed to get sufficient from a house that was demolished less than a hundred yards away (it was suffering from subsidence).

The workshop rebuilt.

Inside the workshop.

The workshop was finally completed in the summer of 1993, and the business moved in in the autumn of that year. The workshop has 3 workbench areas including a built in light table, an exhaust fume extraction system over two of the work areas for clearing soldering fumes which is conjoined with a fume cabinet for acid etching with hydrofluoric acid. We have a variety of glass rack sizes for the extensive range of glass that we stock.

We don't keep any leaded panels in stock since all that are made are commissioned for a particular site, though we do have some for display only. These are not for sale. Although we ourselves don't sell glass or any other materials we are happy to direct any enquiries of such a nature to Long Eaton Stained Glass, an excellent local stockist who has been in the trade for many years..
