All the leaded light panels that we make are commissioned by a customer for a specific location. Following the initial enquiry we will meet the client so that they can view the portfolio of designs, look through our photograph albums and pattern books. We will make a site visit to check the location for dimensions, light levels and fitting requirements and to take photographs of any existing stained glass panels from which we might want to copy motifs or layout etc. It is often advisable for the client to do some preparatory work by walking around the neighbourhood looking for original examples which might be relevant.

Very often an original door has been cannibalised and its dividing bars have been removed to create one large glazed panel (this was very often the cheapest option at the time). These can be easily replaced by a competent joiner saving a considerable amount compared with the cost of a new door .

Although the choice of design is entirely the customers we are happy to advise on the suitability of a design for a particular style of house. If the customer has very definite ideas and has either drawn their own sketch or possibly seen something in a magazine or book we are happy to take this as the starting point for a design. More often customers will choose a design (or perhaps two if partners are also involved) from the portfolio and we will redraw those to the correct scale and in the preferred colours.

Along with the drawings we will provide a written quotation detailing all that is included in the price, e.g. fitting, reinforcing bars, new beading etc. We do not charge for proposal drawings or quotations. The quote will recommend that when a client is getting competetive quotations they must ask to see the design prior to the work commencing and to see samples of the glass to be used. We go further than this, we are happy to show a client the full range of available glass without any obligation. The cost quoted will always include the use of the most appropriate glass for the job regardless of the cost. We do not cut corners with glass selection so the customer can be assured that we will not limit the choices to the cheaper ranges.

If the customer is happy with the design and the cost, they will then come to our workshop to choose glass for the commission, from the very wide range available to us. Depending on the work load the commission will normally be completed within about 6 weeks.

If the project is very large we will ask for a deposit of approx. 25% at this stage, though for most door and window commissions no deposit is required and payment is made on completion of the work to the customer's satisfaction.

We regret that this level of service is only available to customers in the Nottingham area. However please feel free to contact us if you are further afield.
